In this chapter, we learn how to greet people, recognize new English letters, and practice fun action words.
We begin by learning polite greetings for different times of the day. When we meet someone, we say 'Namaskar'. In the morning, we greet others by saying 'Good morning'. In the bright afternoon, we say 'Good afternoon'. In the evening, we say 'Good evening', and when we go to sleep at night, we say 'Good night'.
Next, we learn the sounds and shapes of English letters from H to P, in both capital and small forms. Each letter begins many familiar words. For example, 'h' is for house, hut, and hand. The letter 'i' begins words like iron, ice, and inkpot. The letter 'j' is for jacket, jug, and jackfruit. We find 'k' in kettle, kite, and key, and 'l' in leaf, lion, and lemon. Moving ahead, 'm' is for mouth, mango, and mouse. The letter 'n' starts nine, nest, and nose. We use 'o' for owl, ox, and orange, while 'p' begins pencil, pot, and parrot. We practice these sounds by finding odd words, matching letters, and tracing both capital and small letters.
Then, we sing an enjoyable action rhyme called 'Hop a Little'. Through this song and picture activities, we learn many lively action words such as hopping, jumping, stamping, skipping, dancing, twisting, stretching, bending, and yawning. We also see pictures of children enjoying games together in the school playground, such as hopscotch and skipping rope.
Finally, we learn to spell simple everyday words and play hopscotch with our classmates. In this game, we jump and hop from letter 'A' to 'G' and come back. This chapter helps us speak politely, read letters correctly, write neatly, and stay active while learning English.
